About Vinyl Veranda
We measure turntables so you do not have to take a marketing page at its word.
Why we exist
Buying a turntable is unusually hard to get right. The spec sheets are thin, the marketing leans on words like warm and musical, and the difference between a deck that protects your records and one that quietly sands them down is invisible at the point of sale.
So we measure. Every product on this site is scored on the same bench, against the same criteria, and ranked purely on the result. All 64 of them — including the ones we would not recommend.
What we measure
Speed stability
Wow & flutter (W.R.M.S. at 33⅓ rpm) and long-term speed deviation. This is what makes sustained piano notes sit still — or waver.
Noise floor
A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio: how much motor rumble and hum sits underneath quiet passages.
Build & isolation
Platter mass, plinth rigidity and how well the deck ignores footfalls and speaker energy.
Setup & upgrade path
How long it takes to get playing, and whether the deck is worth putting a better cartridge on later.
What we cover
64 products from 15 brands, across 8 categories:
How we stay honest
- No paid placements. No brand can buy a position, a score, or a mention. Some well-known names rank low here — that is the point.
- No pre-approval. Nobody sees a review before it publishes.
- Affiliate links, clearly marked. We earn a commission when you buy through our links. It costs you nothing extra and it does not touch the ranking — the score is set before the link is added.
- We publish the misses. If a deck tracks too heavily and chews records, we say so, even when it sells well.
