◆ Our verdict

The Pro-Ject Primary E is an outstanding gateway into real hi-fi vinyl playback. It strips away unnecessary complexity while retaining the sonic integrity Pro-Ject is known for, making it ideal for first-time turntable buyers or anyone wanting a simple secondary setup. It won't satisfy tinkerers who want cartridge upgrades, but for straightforward, satisfying analog sound, it's hard to beat at this price point.

  • Setup is essentially plug-and-play, ideal for beginners
  • Pre-fitted, pre-aligned cartridge removes guesswork
  • Compact and simple design fits easily into small spaces
  • Solid build quality typical of Pro-Ject engineering

What we didn’t

  • No built-in phono preamp, requires external phono stage

  • Manual speed change requires moving the belt by hand
  • Lacks USB output for digitizing records
  • Basic dust cover feels a bit lightweight

Perfect first turntable

I was nervous about getting into vinyl but this made it so easy. Just plug it in, drop the needle, and enjoy. Sound is warm and full.

Great value, minor gripes

Sounds fantastic for the price, but I wish it had a phono preamp built in. Had to buy a separate one which added to the cost.

Simple and effective

No frills, just good analog sound. The belt drive is quiet and the cartridge alignment out of the box was spot on.

Exceeded expectations

I upgraded from a cheap all-in-one player and the difference is night and day. Highly recommend for anyone starting a vinyl collection.
